The Philadelphia 76ers have two new players on two-way deals for the 2019-20 season as they have designated Norvel Pelle and rookie Marial Shayok as such players. To do so, they had to waive one of their two-way players from last season and that player was Haywood Highsmith.

Highsmith played 46 games with the Sixers G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, and he averaged 12.2 points and 6.9 rebounds on his way to a G League elite team selection. His play even earned him a call up with the Sixers and he played five games with the team before being sent back down to Delaware to continue to develop.

It appears that Highsmith now will receive an opportunity elsewhere as The Athletic’s Gina Mizell is reporting that he is expecting to sign an Exhibit-10 deal with the Phoenix Suns.

The Suns are a rebuilding team looking for more young talent to develop and it’s a good spot for Highsmith to land. He won’t have the pressure of trying to contribute right away on a contending team like the Sixers.

He also will potentially reunite with former Sixers assistant coach Monty Williams who left in the offseason for the head job of the Suns. With the expected contract being an Exhibit-10 deal, the Suns can designate him to their G League affiliate in the case he does not make the roster out of training camp.
