One of the former Philadelphia 76ers players from last season’s roster is making positive strives in his career on multiple levels.

Haywood Highsmith was one of the feel good stories from last season. He played on at a small college and then made the Philadelphia 76ers G-League team’s roster. He earned a two-way contract due to his good play with the Delaware Blue Coats. Despite his solid play in Delaware, Highsmith was waived by Sixers in June, but he’s still making positives strives in his career.

The former two-way contract player impressed while playing with the Blue Coats as he averaged 12.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 steals, while making 43.0 percent from the field and 33.8 percent from 3-point land. With Sixers he only averaged 1.8 points in five games, which is less than impressive.

Despite not being on the official 76ers roster, Highsmith still played on the summer league club, but sadly didn’t perform well. He averaged 7.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists, while converting 32.3 percent from the floor and 31.2 percent from 3-point range (stats per RealGM). Despite his poor showing in summer league, Highsmith is still garnering interest on both the G-League and possibly the NBA level.

Highsmith has been named to the G-League Elite Roster that will compete in international games in South America. Teams from Argentina, Germany, Brazil, Mexico and host country Uruguay will also be participating. Highsmith will be joining other G-League stars like Kalin Lucas and hopefully can show off his potential as a 3-and-D prospect.

That’s not the only news surrounding Highsmith recently. It’s rumored by Jason Blevins of The Painted Line that Highsmith has had private workouts with the Phoenix Suns. Highsmith could offer the Suns some positives as a versatile defender, as Blevins pointed out in his tweet. It’s unclear if anything will become of it, but the fact there are rumors concerning Highsmith is a positive for his prospects as an NBA player.

Next: Sixers success hinges on Embiid’s conditioning

Highsmith may not be a part of the Philadelphia 76ers organization anymore, but it’s good to see he is doing well.
